about

Samwas is a muti-genre producer and performer from upstate New York, currently based in the greater Philadelphia region. He grew up playing bass guitar in several rock bands, playing out regularly throughout the Capital Region. In the early 2000s after relocating to southern New Jersey, Samwas began frequenting electronic music events in the Philadelphia underground scene. These young experiences would prove to impact Samwas on many levels. Samwas independently released his first glitch-hop album - AYR FLOW: Are You Ready For Love Or War? (under the alias Watzy) - in 2008 to internet fans world-wide. Later, in 2008, Sam was introduced to the visionary art-infused psychedelic bass music scene of New York City. Samwas began to make "burner" parties and events such as the monthly 'Entheogenic Salon" at Alex Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors his second home. Five years later and Samwas is ready to release his debut EP with Philadelphia's own Psy.Fi. Ekaggatā (a Buddhist term for one-pointedness or concentration) sets out to return to fundamentals and give listeners something different than they're used to. While the West Coast may currently be dominant in the "glitch-hop/future bass" scene, Ekaggatā is a refreshing project coming out of the East Coast. This album reminds us that even heavy bass influenced electronic music doesn't always have to be focused on selling hype or packing sweaty clubs and dance floors. This EP can certainly be enjoyed on its own and is sure to get listeners looking deep within themselves. This is most definitely only the beginning for Samwas, and we cannot wait to see what he brings to the table in the future.
